Thursday, Sept. 13

Off to a good start today.  I really do love mornings, it is my new favorite time of day! It is so peaceful and enjoyable to sit with a great cup of coffee and do school with Sylvie. I LOVE that we have faith studies everyday.  We have 2 days of the faith and life workbook and 2 days of 1st communion preparation each week.

Today we started with the students prayer, read our Blessings everday book for Sept 13 and Sylvie looked up the chapter and verse from Romans. She is getting better at that. We read pages 22-33 in Little Acts of Grace.  Next, Sylvie wrote on the back of the Guardian Angel picture for Ellie that we will mail today in hopes she will think of her as she goes to kindergarten.  (I will let Sylvie pay for the postage with cash and count the change she gets as a real-world math lesson.  Tomorrow at co-op, Sylvie has to give a presentation on the martyred saint that she chose for a tombstone for the church harvest festival.  She chose St. Lucy who was a nun that died for Christ after being persecuted by a man that had wanted to marry her.

Literature- Devotional Stories for Little Folks- chapter 4, Child of the Promise- a nice story about the family adopting a 3yr old girl.  Vocabulary words- covenant and adoption.

Break time- applesauce and jump rope and a hair do.

Math- Lesson 6- Got out the shape pattern blocks.  talked about color, named the shapes and made a pattern. Did a timed test of doubles to 5. she got 20/20 correct out of 25 available questions in 1 minute.  She stopped to erase 2 answers which slowed her down. Completed worksheet 6 together, she will do worksheet 6B at rest time independently. We still need to work on counting backwards a lot!  Worked on the time flashcards-  I added quarter past to the stack.  Worked on looking at the clock- writingboth the digital time and then the words quarter past or half past.

Geography- North American animals.  Cut out pics from the NatGeo kids and glued them on her map she made last week. Read about Taylor from NYC and Taryn from Illinios.
